How to Apply for Study in Hungary

It is confusing for students to apply in a university that is located in Hungary while they are in their homeland. Of course, you can’t specially visit Hungary just to apply for admission because it will take a lot of time and resources. Good for students that they can apply online for admission. This article is a step by step guide to apply for admission in a university of Hungary.

1 - Select a Program

First step is to select a program in which you want to study. Hungarian Universities offer variety of different courses. When you select a program, you must read all the requirements, fee schedule and admission deadline of that course Try to select a program that attracts you the most and in which your interest lays. Once you have selected a program in which you are interested the next step is to apply in a school.

2 - Select a University

After selection of the program select a university in accordance with your requirements. Try to select a university that offers more opportunities to the students than the rest. Hungary has many world class universities. They all offer excellent quality of learning on both academic and social level. You must select more than one universities so you have backup options if you don’t get admission in first university.

3 - Check Eligibility Requirements

Each university and program can ask for different admission requirements. As a student you should make a list of the details about the university, admission rules and regulations and general criteria. Hungarian universities offer both undergraduate and postgraduate courses to international students. Universities usually prefer admission to those having excellent academics record.

4 - Where to Apply?

Go to the university website in which you want to apply and be sure to read complete method of submitting application. You may be required to register and make an account online in order to apply for admission. Fill the application, double check for any mistakes and click the submit button. After that you will be required to submit academic documents.

You will either submit soft copy of documents online or post them to their postal address. Below I have mentioned all the documents required by universities in Hungary for admission. You can also contact university official online on their website for counseling.

5 - Language Requirements

Knowledge of foreign language is very important during study abroad. You are required to have a grip on English language as most of you will be studying English-taught programs. Almost all universities in Hungary require IELTS with minimum 5 bands or TOEFL with minimum score of 60. Without these English language proficiency certification, your application is incomplete.

You will need to prove proficiency in Hungarian if you are planning to study programs taught in Hungarian. Having extra knowledge of this language would be of great help to interact with locals. Hungary also offers German and French taught programs so you can also apply for programs in these languages if you know any of these.

6 - Required Documents

You have to gather all documents required by university before you submit application. You will either have to upload scanned images of original certificates or post clear copies to their address. All documents must be in English if your documents are not in English then have them translated. You will also have to attest all academic documents and their copies from your relevant board and IBSC. Following are all the general documents required by universities in Hungary. It is also suggested to see the program requirement on the official website of the university.

Academic certificates/ transcripts and copies attested from HEC (if you studied under HEC) or relevant board and IBSC (for documents of intermediate).
English translated Birth Certificate certified by Notary Public.
Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC). Copy certified by Notary Public.
Valid Passport. First page of copy certified by Notary Public.
Experience letter (if any). Copy certified by Notary Public.
Recent passport size photo.
IELTS or TOEFL with minimum 5 over-all band, depending on the requirements of the institute. Certified by Notary Public.
At least two Reference/ Recommendation letters from teachers and employers. (at least one from your former teacher) with the name, email address and/or phone numbers of the recommender are indicated on the letter. Certified by Notary Public.
Motivation letter/ Statement of purpose.
Bank statement proving you have enough resources to cover at least a year in Hungary.
If any document is not in English, then submit the official credentials in original language and a certified translation in English as well.
Resume/CV (not compulsory).

7 - University Application Deadlines

Students must be aware of the university application deadlines. Most Universities advertise their disciplines in the last three or four month of the year. If you have all documents but unaware about university deadline than you can miss the chance to study in Hungary. Student are advised to apply before 15 January. Another factor is number of seats. If there are seats left in university, applications up to the 30 June may also be considered.

8 - After Receiving Acceptance Letter

When a student receives his acceptance letter from the university then it’s time to apply for visa. You will be studying in Hungary within two or three months after receiving acceptance letter.
