AKS Graduate Fellowship 2025 | Fully Funded Research Program in South Korea

The Graduate School of Korean Studies just opened up fellowship applications for international students on their website. They're looking for students who are working on their Master's or PhD at a university outside of Korea.

The AKS Graduate Fellowship is a 6-month program at the Academy of Korean Studies aimed at graduate students focusing on Korean studies. It runs from September 1 to February 28, 2025, at the GSKS Academy. International students looking to expand their knowledge about Korea through research are welcome to apply. The fellowship provides support like a monthly payment, round-trip flights, housing, and more. You can apply now, but be sure to submit your application by May 9, 2025.

Fellowship Details

Fellowship Benefits

• You’ll get a monthly stipend of 750,000 KRW.
• Also, you'll have a round-trip economy airfare covered, but it can't go over 2,060,000 KRW per person, based on what’s set by the Ministry of Economy and Finance for 2025.
• Staying in the on-campus dormitory won’t cost you anything.
• The fellowship runs from September 1, 2025, to February 28, 2026, and it lasts for six months (no extensions).
• You’ll need to pick one of the AKS professors who knows your research area well to be your advisor during this time.
• You’ll also have access to AKS facilities, like the library and Jangseogak Archives.
• Plus, you can take Korean language courses for free.

Eligibility Criteria

• You can apply if you're a foreign national or a Korean national who studied outside of Korea.
• This is open to students currently working on a master’s or PhD.
• If you've finished your coursework but haven't graduated yet, you can still apply.
• Your research topic must be related to Korean studies.
