1. Non Academic Scholarships – There is a lot of money to be given away through scholarships. All of these don’t require you to be the top of the class student or have all A’s to apply. There are scholarships out there that range from A to Z with all sorts of topics that you can receive. Some of these have strange criteria that you have to submit to win, but you just might be the only person that applies as well. Apply for anything even as crazy as it may sound.
2. Scholarship Databases – There are many places online you can search for scholarships for college. It’s always a good idea to check with your schools financial aid office when you apply to the school to see if they have any scholarships that apply to you and your situation.
Several colleges (like Harvard) have specific scholarship web pages that are only available to their students. Always keep in mind that when it comes to scholarships, you are not paying anything. If you find a scholarship that says you have to pay a fee to apply, don’t do it. It’s probably a scam. There are plenty of scholarship offers out there that are totally free.
3. Local and Offline – Using the internet is a good way to find scholarships, but quite honesty the odds of winning very competitive scholarships is going to be a lot lower than your chances of winning a locally offered scholarship.
Check in your area with local businesses and organizations such as the YMCA, churches and Kiwanis Clubs to see if they are offering scholarships. Your high school guidance counselors may be able to give you some ideas as to where you can find some of these locally. Library bulletin boards often post scholarship offers available in the local community.
4. College Grants – There are several different types of college grants that don’t have to be paid back. These grants are given out on the basis of need and they are funded by state and federal grants. When you receive these grants there are no payments you have to worry about at all.
The amount you are granted will be based on the amount your eligible for. Some of the grants are ones that pay all the tuition fees and books and materials as well.
5. Federal Grants – There are many free applications for federal grants. For these grants, you won’t have to worry about paying them back since the state will be funding the expense.
The only thing you need to do is find out what you’re eligible for by applying with the Federal Student Aid applications.
Paying for college does not have to cause the worry and stress that is has in the past
You must do your homework and get out there and find ways to get that free money to go to college. Persistence pays off!
Good Luck!
