A three-day conference titled “Human Rights Challenges and Prospects” was held at Government College University, Lahore. The aim of the discussion was to put attention on the importance of approachable, low cost and comprehensive education policies for students of Pakistan. A foreign delegation along with Punjab Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Humayun Sarfraz as chairperson also attended the concluding session of the conference.
A large number of Pakistani scholars and foreign scholars attended the conference, the included: Pakistan Research Centre, Honder College of IMNU, China Director Prof Tang Jun, Prof Zulkhumor Mirzaeva from Uzbekistan, Dr Tamás Lattmann from Hungry, Dr Noreha binti Hashim from Malaysia, Dr Bilveer Singh from Singapore and Mr Jeff Barnes from University of Akron, Ohio, USA.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Hassan Shah said that the education system is not only limited till the ability to write and read, but it involves awareness regarding one’s legal rights and obligations. The conference was organized to gather scholars from various institutes of the world to contribute their intellectual thinking in the discussions, the event proved to be a success as it provided international platform to students for exposure of academic learning.
Countries like China, USA and UK have been helping Pakistani Government in sustainability and development of higher education system in Pakistan. The establishment of vocational institutes and training centers and Gwadar University are planned under CPEC project. Pakistan-USA corridor is initiative by HEC with the help of American Universities to provide scholarships to Pakistani students in American Universities. Department for International Development Pakistan is an initiative by UK, to eradicate illiteracy in Pakistan through aid programmes and funds by UK.
Pakistani students are accessible to many international scholarship programmes in number of countries of West and Asia. But the need is the platform to provide career counseling at University level. For that purpose too, there has been witnessed an up rise in participation of delegations from foreign Universities to guide Pakistani University students.
Pak-UK Education Gateway is a joint program launched by Higher Commission of Pakistan and The British Council in Pakistan. Under this program, collaborations between UK and Pak higher education sector is expected. The students who want to study in UK will be provided with scholarships, and researchers from UK and Pakistani Universities will involve in exchange programmes.
