Starting in April 2025, the German Consulate in Karachi changed how Pakistani applicants book visa appointments. They introduced a new waiting list system to better manage the high demand for appointments.
Key Changes to the Appointment Process
Before, you could easily book your Schengen and long-term visa appointments whenever you wanted. Now, it’s different. You need to get on a waiting list, and they’re giving out appointments based on when you signed up and how many spots are available.
This change affects both Schengen short-term and long-term visas, but the Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte) still allows for direct bookings.

Registration Process
If you want to get on the waiting list, you need to give some details about why you're traveling. Make sure to fill everything out correctly, since missing or wrong info could slow things down or get you disqualified.
The Consulate wants to remind everyone that registration is free and suggests that applicants handle it on their own instead of using agents.
Categories for Visa Applications
People can sign up for appointments in different categories:
- For short-term (Schengen) visas, there are options for Business, Visit, Trade Fair Exhibitor, Trade Fair Visitor, Tourism, and Airport Transit Visas.
- For long-term visas, you can apply for Master studies, scholarships, PhDs, research, bachelor studies, study preparation, and language courses.
Important Notes
- Make sure you have all the necessary documents and copies ready before your appointment. If your application is incomplete, you might lose your appointment.
- Keep an eye on official sources for any updates about the visa application process.
