The Higher Education Commission (HEC) started the prize in 2004 for a period of five years i.e. 2004-2009 under a project to recognize the research and theoretical contributions of teachers.45 faculty members had deliberated Best University Teacher Awards at a ceremony held at the Higher Education Commission (HEC). The awards consist of a cash prize of Rs100, 000 and a certificate for excellent performance. The selections were placed before the awards committee which selected 45 teachers for the best university teacher award.
The reviewed criteria were communicated to all public and private sector universities. The criteria were Qualification (5%), Teaching (50%), Research (30%) and Co-Curricular Activities (15%). As a result, about 85 nominations were received from public sector universities and 18 were received from private sector universities. And furthermore, 10 teachers from private sectors were also nominated for prizes. Award committee selected 45 teachers for the Best University Teacher Award 2012-2013.
