Germany Visa and Tickets
Before you jump to university fees and living expenses of Germany, you must first know the first expense you will have to face in journey of studying abroad. Before you can go to Germany, you need to have its visa. As you are going to study, you will require a student visa. German Visa price is about €60 that is almost equivalent to 6,850 Pakistani rupees.
After visa next expense will be ticket to Germany that you will often need. Exact price of the ticket depends on what city you are going to and which city you are going from. A round trip from Islamabad to Frankfurt (a city of Germany) costs about 62,000 PKR and same round trip from Islamabad to Berlin will cost about 90,500 Pakistani rupees.
Health Insurance
You also need to have a health insurance in order to be eligible to register in a German university. A health insurance in Germany is compulsory and will cost you about €80 (9,000 Pakistani rupees) per month.
Educational Expenses
At present, higher education is free in all public universities of Germany even for all overseas students. But is is said to be ending in coming years since one of its State has changed the rule of free education for foreigners. Other than university fee, you also need other study related material like books, stationary and other things for assignments and projects. According to students studying abroad in Germany, this will take about 3,000 rupees per month. There are two types of universities in Germany and each will cost different.
Public Universities
As mentioned, education in public universities is currently free. However you will still need to pay admission fee and confirmation, enrollment, and administration fee every semester that costs about €300 equivalent to almost 35,000 Pakistani rupees.
Private Universities
Private Universities in Germany are just like any other university in the world and charge proper education fees. These private universities cost about 23 lac rupees per year and of course excluding the admission fee, that will cost only one time.
Living Expenses
Even if you are studying free in a public German university, you still can’t run away from your living expenses and must bear them. Different cities in Germany have different costs and prices of everything like rents and groceries. Average estimated monthly cost of living in Munich is 12 Pakistani lac rupees per year. On the other hand, it will cost about 10 lac rupees per year if you live in any Frankfurt.
Rent
Rent is the biggest and most important expense you will face. There are two types of residence you acquire while studying abroad. One is the university and second is a private flat. As a third, you can also get a house but that is a little too expensive and not recommended to students.
If you share a flat with another friend, you will have to pay about 34 thousand per month. If you live alone then definitely you will pay the whole rent alone that is double.
University dorms are cheaper compared to residence outside university. In addition, it will also save you the cost of transport. Residence inside university will cost you an average of 27 thousand per month.
Food
You are definitely going to eat daily unless you have some sort of super power which I would be interested to know otherwise be ready to spend a great deal while living in Germany. Average cost of food per month in Germany is 19 thousand rupees. It depends on your diet whether you take it up or down. But take my advice, never compromise on your diet and always eat well or won’t be able to do anything else.
Clothing
Though no one counts it but it is also important as you have to dress according the fashion of where you live and have to keep yourself up to date. You can save or spend more from this, it is your personal choice but it will definitely hit when you will be studying abroad. According to some expert statistics a student in Germany spends average 5,000 rupees per month on their dressing.
Telephone, Internet and Cable
You will need to call many friends and family whether in your homeland or in Germany and you will most probably also need a cell phone. Today, one just can’t live without internet as it is necessity in every field of life. If you live outside the university then you will probably also be paying for TV cable. In short, You can expect to pay about 3,500 rupees for this too.
Other Activities
Other than all necessary needs, one also have to spend some on his leisure. You will need to go out with friends or sometimes just eat at a nice restaurant. Might also spend some on party, treats, play, tourism or other things. These may sound extra but they are unavoidable expenses so must count them. According to experts you will spend about 7,000 Pakistani rupees per month on this.
