How To Make The Best CV For Study Abroad Application

The full form of CV is a Latin word “Curriculum Vitae”, which means “course of life”. Usually, a CV is a document people use to apply for jobs as it contains a candidate’s personal information, qualifications, skills and experience. A CV is a brief document that gives you the opportunity to demonstrate your best qualities and sell your skills and experience to a potential employer. It shows them that you are the right person for the job.

Before deciding whether a candidate is a good fit for the position or not, recruiters typically look at a CV for just a few seconds. Therefore, the first impression is crucial. You have to persuade recruiters to spend more time on your CV if you submit a tidy and well-organized document. On the other hand, if your CV is poorly formatted, the recruiter will reject it by just the look of it. In today's competitive job market, making a good first impression is important. That is why we are here. Today we are going to explain 7 simple steps to making the best CV.

CV Format For Study Abroad Application

  • You have to choose a neat and tidy format for your CV. Choose the clear and professional fonts, i.e. Arial, Georgia, Helvetica, Calibri etc.

  • Divide the sections by writing the “titles” in bold and then further explain your titles in the description and be precise about the position you are applying for. It will make your CV easy to read and will draw the recruiter’s attention directly to the specific information he is looking for. For example, write your summary at the top of your summary under the title of “Summary” and describe your experience under the “experience” title.

Summary For Resume

Summary is a statement that summarizes your qualifications and skills for the position. Begin by providing a decent summary of your key accomplishments and skills.

  • This will draw the employer’s attention and catch their eye all along, keep your summary brief and relevant.

  • You want to make a good first impression because this personal profile is an important part of your CV and tells the recruiter exactly who you are and how you can serve them if they hire you.

There are two ways to write a summary; The right one and the wrong one, if you want to write your CV the right way, include the specific numbers like years of experience, include the names of the companies where you have worked before, instead of just writing your designation.

Let’s see the how to and how not to write the summary for your CV:

1. The Right Way CV

Personable and dependable “graphic designer” with more than 4 years of experience working in “Crown marketing company” at a fast pace. Based on the company’s internal review, received a company-best quality satisfaction rating of 99.76 percent. Aiming to grow professionally with your company in order to advance my career.

2.The Wrong Way CV

For the past four years, I have worked as a graphic designer. I am able to work well under pressure, even with the tightest of deadlines, and I also manage some difficult customer accounts in addition to my knowledge of various software and design programs.

What’s the Difference? Wrong emphasizes daily responsibilities rather than achievements. Right provides the proof of experience, accomplishments, and skills.

Provide the Accurate Contact Information

You need to let the recruiters know how they can reach you if they want to hire you. Provide accurate contact information, even your LinkedIn profile. It’ll show the employer how serious you are. They might use them to cross-check you online. For example if your experience or qualifications doesn’t match that on your CV, you’ll be immediately rejected. You should provide the given contact information:

  • Full name
  • Email address
  • Telephone number
  • LinkedIn profile
  • Home address

Experience and Achievements

Experience is the most important component of your CV. Explain your experience and achievements and how good you were in your previous job and how you reached a certain achievement.

  • Don’t tell them what you can do for them, tell them what and how well you did it in the past.

  • They’ll decide how you can serve their company.

  • Make the proper bullet points of the company’s name, your designation, for how many years you worked there, use proper numbers as they have more impact and mention your achievements, like how much sales you brought to the company or how much social media engagement you brought to the company.

  • If you have done an internship in the past, it’ll look good on your CV.

  • If you had more than one job, make sure to give the proper titles of each company name and mention your job duration too.

Qualification In CV

Now it’s time to put in your qualifications. There’s no need to mention your school degree, write the highest qualification you have done recently, i.e. bachelors, masters or PhD.

  • First of all, write the institution name in bold letters and write the duration of your batch in front of it. On the next line write the degree name and major subject (if any).

  • Also, mention any certificate or diploma you have completed related to the field.

  • Make it snappy and quick to read.

  • Do not enter any irrelevant data like the diploma you couldn’t complete or changed of subjects during the degree program etc.

Demonstrate That You Are Connected And Skills

You will have met a wide range of people, whether at university or in previous jobs. Make certain that this gets through. Employers place a high value on strong communication skills, and networking demonstrates that you are connected to field work and can talk out a solution to clients’ confusion. Explain your skill sets like communication skills, multi-tasking, resilience etc. Also, put the names of additional languages you know. And don’t try to push those skills too much. Don’t make it look like you’re bragging.

Proofread Your CV

The final step is Proofreading. Make sure to reread your CV word by word, line by line.

  • Make sure there aren’t any spelling or grammar mistakes.

  • Delete the repetitive words and replace them with some powerful and field related keywords, like if you’re applying for a graphic designer position you should use keywords related to designing and designing software etc.

  • Make sure any important material is not missing and make sure to print your CV on good quality pages. You don’t want to hand over a bad quality and misprinted CV to the employer.
