India-Canada Row may Result in Better Chances for Pakistani Students in Canada

Canada-India relations have always been fraught on the issue of Khalistan and Sikh. A bitter row between India and Canada over the murder of a Sikh separatist is being felt in Punjab, where some Indians fear a backlash from India's Hindu-nationalist government.

The ongoing row has highlighted the tensions between the two countries over a Sikh campaign for a sovereign state in India’s Punjab region known as the Khalistan movement that has supporters in parts of Canada.

India seems to have suspended visas for Canadian nationals, with the visa outsourcing service provider BLS International stating on its website that, Due to operational reasons, with effect from 21 September 2023, Indian visa services have been suspended until further notice. Due to this issue the global education system is being impacted by all of these India Canada disputes.

India–Canada Row Impact on Indian students studying in Canada

Canada is a popular study abroad destination for international students including Indian students. According to data released by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, there are currently more than 1,300,000 Indian students enrolled in many different cities of Canada. 

Recently the growing tensions between India and Canada, increase the impact of the issues on Indian students studying in Canada. 

Up to this point, the tension between India and Canada has the potential to have a negative impact on students. There have been no reported issues from students studying in the country until now 

But Students might face some issues in Future, They should have Concerns over their educational journey which have been raised by recent news reports about tensions escalating between Canada and India.

How it is beneficial for Pakistani Students 

Due to this India Canada row dispute the Indian higher education platforms are encouraging Indian students to explore universities in other countries like the United Kingdom and the United states as alternatives. 

India and Canada’s relations have been strained for some time, with issues continuously affecting Indian international students. Some students are close to being deported after a rogue education agent forged documents, and multiple arrests are made and charges brought against agents.

Due to these reasons the Indian government discourages Indian students from applying to Canada. The Indian government issued a similar warning for students last year.

Canada will eventually reduce the number of international students coming from most countries, especially from India. So, the number of international students in Canada will reduce which might be in favor for Pakistani students to apply for Canada student visa. Everyone knows the Indian international students do not bring in any extraordinary talent or abilities.

They apply for a Canadian student visa because that is the easiest way to get permanent residence. Pakistani students can show their abilities and talent to avail the opportunity to fulfill their dream to study in Canada. 

Pakistanis should be aware of some precautions as the government of Canada may not be in a position to provide consular assistance to Canadians due to the recent arrest of a prominent public figure and the India Canada conflict.  If you are from Pakistan you must follow these safety precaution to not face any issues 

• Avoid areas where demonstrations and large gatherings are taking place.
• Always be aware of your surroundings when in public places.
• Carry your photo identification at all times such as passport and identity card etc. 
• Expect an increased presence of security forces.
• Be prepared to change your travel plans on short notice. 
• Monitor local media to stay informed on the evolving situation.
• Follow the instructions of local Canadian authorities.
