Korean Minister Visits NUML University to Promote Culture and Arts

On Tuesday, Hangul day (Korean Language day) was celebrated in NUML University. The organizers of this event were King Sejong Institute Islamabad and Korean Department of NUML. The purpose of this event was to promote culture, language and arts of Korea in Pakistan. The Minister Counselor embassy of Republic of Korea, Mr. Sang Seung-Man was chief guest of the event. Director General Brig Muhammad Ibrahim, Registrar, Directors, Head of Department Korean Language and Director King Sejong Institute Islamabad Dr. Atif Faraz, and other faculty members also attended the event. A large number of students were present and the participants of the events sang Korean songs and played Korean games. Director General NUML Brig Ibrahim thanked the attendants and chief guest in his speech and explained the importance of language in culture. Through language, the understanding of culture, history and customs of a nation can be better understood. The similarities between URDU and KOREan language for also discussed in the event.

NUML University Korean Language department

The department of Korean Language celebrated its 12th anniversary in 2018. It was established to make the ties between both countries strong. A large number of students travel to South Korea through scholarships funded by government of South Korea and Pakistan. Korean Universities are among world’s best Universities. Korean language is requirement of admission for many courses and therefore Korean Language teaching in NUML helps the students travelling to South Korea. NUML University has been playing a vital role in bridging the gap between the two nations. Earlier this year, in March, 12th speech competition in Korean language was held in NUML university Islamabad campus. Ambassador of Korea, Kwak Sung-kyu was chief guest of the event; he appreciated the efforts made by the department’s faculty. Korean language was already part of NUML University Modern Language Department in Faislabad and Lahore. The Korean language department was inaugurated in 2016 by ambassador of Korea Mr. Jong Hwan Song. The Korean Language Department of NUML has 97% passing rate in HRD Korea exam.

Pakistan Korea Relationship

Pakistan and South Korea share bilateral relationship. The relationship between both countries has been strengthened over the years since 1980. The governments of both countries have been working together in fields of mutual interest. The trade and investment between the both countries is around US$ 1.1 billion. A huge number of students are currently studying in Korea. South Korea has contributed massively in IT field of Pakistan. World acclaimed companies like L-G, HYUNDAI, DAEWOO, SAMSUNG, LOTTE Group, SAMBU Construction Co. Ltd and KEPCO are working in Pakistan, hence giving employment opportunity to many. Software Technology Park in Islamabad is first state-of-the-art Technology Park in Pakistan by mutual funding of Governments of South Korea and Pakistan. Pakistan and South Korea have entered into 4th decade of their friendship. Both the countries have their embassies in their capital cities, Seoul and Islamabad. KOTRA (Korea Trade Centre) has proved to be an important factor in lifting up of trade between Pak-Korea.
