What is the Taiwan Fellowship?

The Taiwan Fellowship is provided by Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs for scholars, professors, and researchers from around the world who want to conduct advanced research about Taiwan. It covers topics like:

  • Taiwan's culture, history, and politics
  • Relations between Taiwan and China
  • Development in the Asia-Pacific region
  • Chinese studies

Since it began, this fellowship has attracted scholars from more than 90 countries, encouraging understanding and sharing of ideas worldwide.

The fellowship is open for applications from: 

  • Professors, Associate and Assistant Professors 
  • Postdoctoral Researchers 
  • Doctoral candidates and students

  • Be a non-Taiwan citizen 
  • Have research interests in one of the fields listed 
  • Include a clear research proposal

What Does the Fellowship Cover?

The MOFA Taiwan Fellowship is fully supported and offers thorough support throughout your stay.

  • Monthly Research Grant:
    • NT$60,000 (~USD $1,900) for senior scholars (Professors and Associate Professors).
    • NT$50,000 (~USD $1,600) for Assistant Professors, Postdocs, and PhD students.
  • Travel Assistance: One round-trip economy airfare to Taiwan.
  • Accident insurance coverage is up to NT$1,000,000.
  • Medical coverage for accidental accidents of up to NT$50,000
