In the following months, many Canadian universities aim to gradually begin offering on-campus classes. The Canadian government has recommended students to get their vaccination jabs before arriving in Canada, and those who have not previously been inoculated will be required to undergo a 14-day quarantine period.
Unvaccinated overseas students will be accommodated in Quarantine Housing provided by the University of British Columbia. In Canada, only those vaccinations manufactured by Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD, and Johnson & Johnson are accepted. Those who receive other vaccinations will be considered unvaccinated in Canada and will be required to complete a two-week quarantine period.
Department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship told the media that, “To be considered fully vaccinated, students will need to have received the full series of COVID-19 vaccines accepted by Canada at least 14 days prior to entering Canada.”
UBC Quarantine Housing
University of British Columbia has designed total 160 units for Quarantine purpose. The university has also announced a Quarantine fund named as “UBC Quarantine Bursary” to help international students to cover their quarantine costs. The university is also in contact with many local hotels where students can stay and spend their mandatory self-isolation period, where the staff will bring their food, medicines and any other necessities they are in need of.
Matthew Ramsay, director of University of British Columbia said that, “While the demand is high, we anticipate that between single residences set aside and hotels it should be manageable.”
He added that, “If you have not had a vaccine and are coming from overseas, please look on the B.C. registration site and register for it, so you can get it when you get here.”
The Canadian Government has approved the arrival of international students in Canada since October 2020, students are only allowed to enter if their institute has an approved Covid-19 readiness plan.
