About the Competition
The QCEC is the world's oldest international literary competition, established in 1883. It has offered a forum for thousands of young voices, allowing them to achieve recognition and a better grasp of global issues. Every year, the tournament revolves around a certain theme, inviting participants to investigate relevant and thought-provoking topics.
"Our Commonwealth Journey" is the theme for 2025, inviting young authors to reflect on shared histories, cultural diversity, and future aspirations.

Who Can Participate?
The competition is accessible to young persons aged 18 or younger who are citizens or residents of Commonwealth countries and territories. It is organized into two age groups:
- Senior Category (Ages 14-18)
- Junior Category (Ages Under 14)
Essay Topics
Participants can select from a variety of interesting topics within their respective categories:
Senior Category (Ages 14-18)
- Imagine a Commonwealth in which everyone has equal access to education. How might this affect the future?
- Retell a renowned legend from your own or another Commonwealth country in an unexpected way.
- Describe how a book led you on a trip and had an impact on you.
- Narrate the life cycle of a plant growing in the heart of your community; what does it encounter?
Junior Category (Under 14 Years)
- Write about an interesting experience you had while learning about a Commonwealth country other than your own.
- Describe a sea cruise between one Commonwealth country and a small island Commonwealth nation.
- Imagine you find a secret door that leads you into your favorite book; what happens next?
- Visualize an animal. Which animals attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) and what topics are discussed?
