The Foreign Ministry held the opening ceremony for New Southbound Policy Elite Study Program on Friday 13th of October 2023, and there was a big news for Pakistanis student as Pakistan have been added to the list of target countries for Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy Elite Study Program which is premium study program for foreign students.
This year not only Pakistan have been added in the list of targeted countries but Myanmar also is the part of this list for the students who wants to study in Taiwan.
The New Southbound Policy (NSP) strengthened Taipei’s relationships with the ten countries of ASEAN, six states in South Asia (including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan). The policy is designed to explore Taiwan’s cultural, educational, technological, agricultural, and economic resources to enhance Taiwan’s regional functions.
In order to welcome talented individuals, the ministry has cooperated with domestic universities from eight countries including India, Indonesia, and Vietnam to study abroad in Taiwan.
The Deputy Foreign Minister Tien Chung-kwang said in his speech that the first year was successful and received a fruitful response and met with enthusiasm. The powerful response was the reason why more countries were added and the number of students joining the program has increased from 50 to 70.
Tien adds in his speech that this year students will study public health, medicine, science and technology, cross-strait relations, Chinese, and many other beneficial and interesting subjects. The deputy foreign minister also hopes that the students can use their 5 months in Taiwan to get to know more deeply about the country.
