What Will You Be Doing?

As a UNIDIR Graduate Trainee, you will play an important role in advancing research on youth, peace, and security issues. Your tasks will include:

  • Research: Conducting extensive study on YPS concerns and contributing to reports and publications.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborating with UN partners, youth groups, and civil society organizations dedicated to peacebuilding and disarmament.
  • Event Planning: Assisting with the organization of UN events and projects, such as Youth 2030, which aims to empower young people worldwide.
  • Administrative and logistical support includes assistance with day-to-day duties as well as program and project coordination.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the program, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Educational Background: You must be currently enrolled or have finished a graduate program (second university degree or higher) in international relations, political science, social sciences, international law, or gender studies.
  • No prior professional experience is required; nevertheless, a strong interest in peace, security, and youth concerns is highly encouraged.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office is necessary, and experience with design applications such as InDesign is preferred. You should also be fluent in English, and additional UN language abilities are considered a benefit.
  • Personal Qualities: Success in this program requires a true dedication to diversity, collaboration, and creating a good global influence.

Program Coverage

The UNIDIR pays trainees a monthly stipend to cover their living expenses.

  • A stipend of USD 1331 per month for Geneva-based
  • A remuneration of USD 665 per month for remote work
