LAHORE: As part of the US government’s initiative to enhancing educational opportunities for young Pakistanis, the US Agency for International Development (USAID) awarded scholarships to 84 bright students enrolled in a four-year bachelors’ degree in education in universities from across the province at Punjab University New Campus on Thursday.
John Shumaker, Pakistan Reading Project Chief of Party, PU Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr Mujahid Kamran, Lahore College for Women’s University (LCWU) VC Prof Dr Sabiha Mansoor, USAID Senior Education Adviser Muhammad Tariq Khan, Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB) VC Prof Dr Muhammad Mukhtar, Faculty of Education Dean Prof Dr Mumtaz Akhter, senior faculty members and a vast number of students from different universities were present in the ceremony.
The scholarship programme is part of a larger $165 million USAID-funded Pakistan Reading Project, which works closely with 28 Pakistani universities and 116 elementary teachers’ colleges across Pakistan.
Scholarships were given to students of PU, University of Education, BZU Multan, University of Gujrat, IUB, Fatima Jinnah Women’s University, Rawalpindi, LCWU and Government College University, Faisalabad.
