Why QS Ranked the Massachusetts Institute of Technology World’s Best University for 2018

Every year a list of universities is published which are considered winners of that year by renowned Educational Media groups. They publish what they call RANK of those particular universities. Their ranking is done by keeping some specific factors in mind that comprise all their academic abilities. What university they rank 1st is considered top best university of the world for that year. Not everyone can just publish their results be accepted, there are just two biggest organizations that undertake this momentous assignment.


What is QS?

Founded in 1990, Quacquarelli Symonds is one of the two biggest Ranking organizations mentioned above. It is a British company that has specialization in field of education. Till 2009, it was cooperated with other one of two biggest ranking organization Times Higher Education. Now it researches and publishes its own ranking about higher educational institutes all over the world. It has its own specific method and scoring system which determines the rank of an institute. What is MIT?

Massachusetts Institute of Technology, founded in 1861, it has always been among world’s top 3 universities. It is a private research university located in the city Cambridge, United States of America. This year QS ranked MIT the Best university of the world to study in 2018. MIT was also ranked Best university for 2017 by QS. Currently there are 19,178 students studying at MIT. It is 6th most difficult university in USA to get admission. It has an acceptance rate of only 8%. There are 12,109 faculty and staff on campus with a total of 1,036 are faculty members . Student :: Faculty ratio at MIT is 3:1. Over the centuries, MIT has accomplished many unbeatable goals and to date its alumni continue to make history.


QS Ranking Methodology:

QS uses a unique methodology and formula to calculate the rank of universities. They take certain factors into consideration and then do their analysis on it. There are total 6 six factors that make 100% of their formula.

3.  Faculty/Student Ratio: 20%

4.  Citations per faculty: 20%

QS gathers the mentioned data and analyze it to make an informed decision. This year again MIT performed splendidly in these fields and nominated itself the Best university of the world.

Financial Aid at MIT

In MIT, a student’s Financial Need is determined using information parents provide on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the College Scholarship Service (CSS) Profile. The first $5,500 of financial need is met with an offer of a student loan/term-time job. The remaining need is met with an MIT scholarship. Students receiving scholarships and grants from sources outside MIT may use this financial aid to replace the student loan/term-time job.


How to Apply for Admission at MIT

Admissions for 2017 are now closed. Now you can apply for admissions of 2018 and its application will be available only by August. To study in Fall or Next Spring, you will also need to pass Standardized Test. This is the time to prepare for it. ACT or SAT is required for admission in MIT with two SAT Subject Tests in math and science.

You will need to make an account on MITs online forum MyMIT where you will be able to access application when they make it available. You will also receive emails on all MIT updates after signing up.
