Admission Requirements:
Applicants must have a master’s degree in law (first legal examination / LL.M.) or in a non-law research-oriented master’s program. PhD students write a doctoral thesis over a period of three years.
The best applicants will be invited to a personal interview (approx. March/April).
Language Requirement:
Students who are not native speakers and want to write their dissertation in German or English must prove their language level by means of recognized certificates. The knowledge of the English language must be proven at level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). This can be done through TOEFL ibT (at least 100 points), IELTS (at least 7 points) or TOEIC (at least 945 points)

Programme Description
The International Excellence Scholarship Programme (IES) is a scholarship programme that enables ambitious students of all fields of study from Eastern and Southeastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia with above-average grades to spend a semester abroad in Berlin.
This programme gives students the opportunity to deepen their knowledge at the best German universities (HU Berlin, FU Berlin, HWR Berlin, University of Potsdam).
Full Scholarship:
Covers monthly pocket money, health insurance, accommodation, enrolment fees, liability insurance, educational trips, social events, and cultural activities.
Partial Scholarship PLUS:
Similar to the full scholarship but requires participants to cover their own travel and health insurance costs.
Partial Scholarship:
Covers all costs except for 2 months of accommodation (1,650 EUR), travel, and health insurance, which must be paid by the participants.
Benefits
Basic monthly scholarship of €1350.
Monthly family allowance of €100 per child if applicable.
Separate grants for additional material resources, travel, and stays abroad (up to €1500 during the standard funding period).
Application Deadlines:
Submit both applications by the deadline of 30 July in the year you are applying.
Scholarships are regularly awarded on 1 October of each year.
Eligibility:
Internships are open to worldwide students.
Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral students worldwide with a basic background in Computer Science.
Students looking for Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis projects are also welcome to apply.
Enrolled students can also apply for the Max Planck Internship.
Criteria:
University degree in natural sciences or related STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) at the level that theoretically entitles to enrol into a PhD
A high level of skills (postdoctoral standard) or expertise in a specialisation in which doctoral degrees are not usually awarded. Experience can be both in academia or non-academic sectors, but must be relevant to the research fields of our groups and teams that are participating in the programme.
