Teaching and learning
In Semester 1, the taught phase of the course, you will study modern concepts of molecular genetics through intensive laboratory classes. You will be trained in laboratory techniques and will develop your proficiency in experimental design through hands-on laboratory experiments.
Alongside the laboratory classes, you will have a core lecture programme, which is shared between our various postgraduate laboratory-based courses and will develop your specialist knowledge. There are also optional lectures in fields related to your own, which will allow you to increase your understanding of the interdisciplinary aspects of your speciality.
Fees and funding
UK Students
Starting in September 2024 or January 2025
£10,700
If you are resident outside the UK and the Republic of Ireland, you will need to pay a deposit of £3,000 to secure your place. This will be subtracted from your total tuition fee.

International Students

You will need to pay a deposit of £3,000 to secure your place. This will be subtracted from your total tuition fee.
From 2022 onwards, EU nationals will pay the International fee. If you are an EU national with settled or pre-settled status under the EU settlement scheme, you may qualify for the UK fee (subject to criteria).

The Helen Berriman Scholarship is available to full-time and part-time first-year female students enrolled in the Bachelor of Laboratory Medicine (Honours) - 4 year program or the Bachelor of Biomedical Science - 3 year program.
Eligibility and selection criteria:
Be a female Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia.
Be a first-year student with current enrolment in an eligible program.
Be experiencing financial disadvantage.
Demonstrate academic achievement.
Provide a written statement clearly addressing the points listed below.
Statements from two referees as character references, with at least one reference from a referee not connected to the applicant’s secondary school or university.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants must have completed an Australian university recognised master's by research or bachelor honours degree with first class or second class / division 1 honours, or an equivalent or higher qualification, or submitted other evidence of general and professional qualifications that demonstrates potential to pursue graduate research studies.
Applicants must also meet the English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications set by the participating organisations. Each university may have slightly varied English proficiency requirements for PhD candidates.
The academic supervisors may also have their specific requirements.
To be eligible for the bursary, applicants must be fee-paying international students, commencing their studies in 2025 in an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program.

The bursary is available for any undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree offered by Federation University.
Eligibility
Be a citizen of a country other than Australia or New Zealand.
Be a full-time student starting in Trimester 1, 2025.
Accept your offer to study at Griffith and make payment within 14 days of receiving your Letter of Offer. The acceptance date for this award will be outlined in your Letter of Offer.

Tenure Conditions
Recipients must meet all UNSW HDR enrolment and candidature conditions, and the conditions outlined in the UNSW HDR Scholarships Policy and Procedure.
Recipients must provide accurate and up to date information to UNSW at all times. 4.1.3. Recipients are expected to spend 35-40 hours per week on their research for a total of 48 weeks per year. Approved part-time recipients are expected to spend 15-20 hours per week on their research for a total of 48 weeks per year.
Recipients must be enrolled on campus and meet the minimum residency requirement of twelve months (full-time equivalent) at UNSW or at a UNSW affiliated institution during their candidature. This is to ensure that recipients have access to the support, infrastructure and experience to successfully complete their HDR program.
Recipients must not be receiving income (such as another scholarship) to support their enrolment if that income is greater than 75% of the primary scholarship rate (see Section 9)
