Benefits

The scholarship offers $5,000 toward the tuition of international students for their first year of study. The award is divided equally between Term 1 and Term 2 tuition fees.

Admission requirements

Requirements for admission vary depending on where you attended high school, which UBC campus you hope to attend, and which degree you’re applying to. If you’re a mature student or have already completed some post-secondary education, you’ll have your own set of specific requirements.

International Baccalaureate students

If you are pursuing the International Baccalaureate diploma, you have your own set of general admissions and degree-specific requirements.

Eligibility

Be new to UBC, entering directly from secondary school.

Be an international student who will be studying at UBC on a Canadian study permit (student visa). (Changes to your citizenship status will affect your IMES eligibility.)

Demonstrate exceptional academic achievement and intellectual promise, as well as impressive extracurricular and community involvement.

Not be nominated for a need-and-merit-based International Scholars award.

The Merit College Scholarship for Leadership and Academic Excellence at the University of Toronto is to be awarded to a full-time international undergraduate student entering their 1st year at University of Toronto who graduated from Merit College/Merit Education with demonstrated leadership and academic excellence.
