Fully Funded PhD in Canada 2025 – UBC Four Year Fellowship

The Four Year Doctoral Fellowship (4YF) program at UBC is all about making sure the top PhD, DMA, and MDPhD students get the financial help they need. They will receive at least $18,200 a year plus coverage for tuition for up to four years. This program helps UBC bring in and support great students from Canada and around the world, giving them stable funding for their studies and research.

Eligibility Criteria

Four Year Fellowships are available for both domestic and international students. Typically, these fellowships are for those starting their first year of full-time PhD, DMA, or MDPhD programs, but continuing students can apply too. The funding can last up to four years, although there might be some cases where it lasts less—check the 4YF Guidelines for specifics. Academic progress is a must for funding to continue.

If you have any of these Tri-Agency awards, you automatically qualify as a 4YF designate: Vanier Scholarships, Doctoral Canada Graduate Scholarships, CIHR Doctoral Research Awards, NSERC Doctoral Postgraduate Scholarships, and SSHRC Doctoral Fellowships. Doctoral students with these scholarships can get 4YF tuition coverage, plus stipends and support until four years after their external scholarship starts or until the end of their fifth year, whichever comes first.

Other winners of significant external scholarships who are selected as 4YF designates may also be eligible for the same type of tuition coverage and support after their external funding ends, again until four years after the 4YF starts or until the end of their fifth year.

Scholarship Coverage
