The KAS Scholarship Program for International Students is aimed toward international students and graduates with a university degree who wish to pursue postgraduate or master's studies, doctoral studies, or a four-semester research stay at a university in Germany.
The applications for the KAS Scholarship in Germany 2025 are now open. It is a fully-funded scholarship for international students. The average master's program lasts two years, whereas a PhD takes three years. The KAS maintains partnerships with several German universities. If you are given the scholarship, you will be able to attend the University of your Choice in Germany.

Financial Benefits
The Scholarship covers:
- Graduates (master's or postgraduate studies) are awarded a monthly scholarship of € 850.
- PhD students receive a monthly scholarship of € 1,200.
- The scholarship covers health insurance up to € 120 per month.
- The scholarship provides a family stipend of € 276 if you and your spouse reside together in Germany for at least three months and his or her monthly income does not exceed € 450.
- Fees resulting from courses at a German institution that are directly relevant to your studies can be repaid up to €1,500 per semester.
Eligibility Criteria
- The required languages are English and German. Have a solid command of the German language (B2-level).
- Eligible Countries: All international countries.
- Have a university degree, as the program does not support bachelor's studies.
- Prove above-average academic performance.
- When applying, you need not be more than 30 years old.
- Plan to study at a German university for at least three semesters, with a constructive attitude toward democracy and human rights.
- Furthermore, they have already actively engaged in their native nations by volunteering for others and society.
Required Documents
- Attach a meaningful CV in tabular format, containing information about your previous volunteer work or social commitments.
- Motivational letter.
- If your original examination certificates are not in English, make copies in German translation.
- If you attended a German university, please provide copies of your academic performance records.
- Proof of German language proficiency (B2).
- An informal academic letter of recommendation: This letter should contain information about your academic qualifications and potential, and it should not be older than two months. The author must be a university professor or instructor with a PhD degree.
- An informal letter of recommendation about the applicant's personality: This letter should highlight your personality and hobbies, as well as your knowledge of principles and social responsibility. The author cannot be the same as the person writing the academic letter of recommendation.
- A certificate of entrance or matriculation from your German university.
If you're applying for a PhD scholarship, please include these documents:
- Detailed description of your PhD thesis: This exposé should be written in German or English (5-10 pages; font size 12; 1.5 line spacing) and should detail your planned project's central research issue, scientific relevance, theoretical approach, and motivations for selecting the study area. It should also include a work timetable and a bibliography.
- Second academic letter of recommendation: This second letter should be written by the supervisor of your PhD thesis, if you already have one. It replaces the letter of recommendation for the applicant's personality.
- A certification of supervision by your doctor, father, or mother.

Full Scholarship:
Covers monthly pocket money, health insurance, accommodation, enrolment fees, liability insurance, educational trips, social events, and cultural activities.
Partial Scholarship PLUS:
Similar to the full scholarship but requires participants to cover their own travel and health insurance costs.
Partial Scholarship:
Covers all costs except for 2 months of accommodation (1,650 EUR), travel, and health insurance, which must be paid by the participants.

MSc in biology, biochemistry, pharmacy or molecular medicine
experience in cell culture, molecular/biochemical techniques and/or zebrafish work is highly desirable

Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds (BIF) PhD Fellowships 2023.
Benefits:
A Boehringer Ingelheim Founds(BIF) PhD fellowship offers a competitive montlhy stipend. It is initially grated for 2 years and may be extended once for up to 1.5 years.


Criteria:
University degree in natural sciences or related STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) at the level that theoretically entitles to enrol into a PhD
A high level of skills (postdoctoral standard) or expertise in a specialisation in which doctoral degrees are not usually awarded. Experience can be both in academia or non-academic sectors, but must be relevant to the research fields of our groups and teams that are participating in the programme.
