Erasmus Mundus Scholarship 2024 and Fellowship

The Erasmus Scholarship Program, a flagship initiative of the European Union, provides funding for students and staff to study, train, or teach in participating European countries, including those from Pakistan. This program promotes international mobility, cultural exchange, and academic collaboration, fostering a diverse learning experience and enhancing skills and knowledge in various fields.
  • The Erasmus Programme is a student exchange programme established by European Union (EU) in 1987.

  • The Erasmus + Programme has been newly designed by European Union which combines together all of EU’s currently running education  training, youth and sport schemes under same programme. The Erasmus plus programme was established in 2014.

  • The Erasmus+ programme is successor of previous lifelong learning programme (2007-2014) but with simpler funding rules and learning mobility opportunities for learners and individuals within premises of EU and beyond it.

  • It is open for students, volunteers, lecturers, apprentices and youth workers.

  • Erasmus Mundus has specific budget to support partnerships between educational institutions with aim of modernizing education, providing effective research opportunities and for smooth organization of the administration of the programme.

  • Through Erasmus mundus, the higher education students of European Universities can study abroad in other European Universities for one year of their study programme or to attain required international work experience from established European organizations.

  • By Erasmus+ programme students can do their one year exchange programme in any of partner European Universities of Erasmus throughout Europe.

  • Erasmus+ include under graduate and post graduate student exchange programmes in all areas of studies such as: languages, linguistics, and literature, business and administrative studies, medicine and dentistry, social studies, creative arts and design, biological sciences, physical sciences, historical and philosophical studies, subjects allied to medicine and law, Agriculture and Veterinary, Engineering, Manufacture and Construction, Health and Welfare, Humanities and Arts, Science, Mathematics and Computing.

  • The no of scholarships vary according to study programme and academic level and also depends on nationality.

  • For example, the mobile film school in Brussels has reserved 21 Erasmus+ scholarship seats in its institute.

What scholarship offers?

  • The Erasmus+ scholarship has different allowances scholarship amount and benefits for programme countries and partner countries.

  • The students having double nationality of a partner country and programme country will be dealt accordingly to rules and regulations of Erasmus+ programme.

  • The Erasmus+ scholarship holders cannot use benefits of other European Funded scholarships until their study programme finishes.

  • The eligible candidates for availing Erasmus+ scholarship are selected on the basis of excellent academic results. 

Erasmus Mundus Programme Offers Tuition Fee

Programme Country: The students belonging from programme countries of Erasmus+ will have up to € 4500 per year per scholarship as contribution to tuition fee of their study programme.

Partner Country: The students belonging from partner countries of Erasmus+ will have up to € 9000 per year per scholarship as contribution to tuition fee of their study programme.

Contribution to Travel Cost:

Programme Country: The students belonging from programme countries will have € 1000 per year per scholarship as contribution to travel cost.

Partner Country: The students belonging from partner countries whose location is less than 4000 km away from the country of hosting institution will have € 2000 per year per scholarship as contribution to travel cost. The students belonging from countries whose location is more than 4000 km away from the country of hosting institution will have € 3000 per year per scholarship as contribution to travel cost.

Note: For travel contribution, the resident of scholarship holder will be verified.

Contribution to subsistence costs:

Programme Country: The residents of programme countries will get € 1000 per month for entire duration of JMD (joint master’s degree) study programme. The JMD study programme has 24 months duration.

Partner Country: The contribution to subsistence cost will not be granted to An Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) student of partner country if he/she has spent the entire research, thesis and placement duration in their country.

What is Erasmus Mundus Scholarship Eligibility Criteria?

  • To apply for exchange studies through participation Erasmus Programme; the students must have registration in higher education institution.

  • The study programme you are enrolled in at that higher education institution must be leading to a recognized degree or other recognized tertiary education degrees such as postgraduate or doctorate level.

  • The institution you are enrolled in must be an Erasmus Charter for Higher Education holder. If you meet this criterion, then you can upload following documents at your chosen hosting institution for Erasmus programme:

Documents For UnderGraduate (Exchange Studies)

  • Letter of Motivation: The motivation letter must be at least written in one page. The candidate will explain why is he/she an eligible candidate for Erasmus and what are his/her reasons to participate in applying study programme.

  • Study Plan: Preparatory study plan for the course you are applying in the Erasmus scholarship application.

  • Updated CV

  • Passport

  • Language Proficiency Test Certificate: It depends on the requirements of your hosting institution and your nationality.

  • Transcript of academic records: The list of degrees, certificates and diplomas you have passed previously. The higher secondary school diploma or equivalent degree that must be passed in at least 60 ECTS.

  • Proof of Registration: A documented proof signed by your home institution demonstrating you are currently enrolled there.

  • Recommendation letter: It is optional for under graduate exchange studies, mainly depends on the requirements of your hosting institution.

  • Candidate’s Recent Photographs

Documents For Postgraduate (Masters) Exchange Studies and Degree Studies

  • Letter of Motivation: Written in one page explain why you are interested in applying study programme and why you must be considered eligible for Erasmus Programme.

  • Study Plan: Preparatory study plan for the course you are applying in the application.

  • Updated CV

  • Passport

  • Language Proficiency Test Certificate: depends on language requirements of your study course, hosting institution and your national language.

  • Transcripts of academic records. The list of degrees, diplomas and certificate you have passed previously. Bachelors Degree passed in good grades, minimum grades requirements depends on your hosting institution.

  • Proof of Registration: An official document issued by your home university stating that you currently enrolled there.

  • Recommendation Letter: Optional, depends on your hosting university’s requirement

  • Candidate’s photographs

Postgraduate (PhD) Exchange Studies

  • Letter of motivation: Written in same manner as mentioned above for bachelors and masters degrees.

  • Updated CV

  • Passport

  • Language Proficiency Test Certificate: According to language requirements of your hosting institution and study programme.

  • Transcripts of academic records: List of all previously passed degrees including:  Bachelor Degree Certificate (or equivalent, Master Degree Certificate (or equivalent) and Letter of Interest by host university.

  • Academic record/list of publications

  • Study and Research Plan

  • Recommendation letters: compulsory for doctorate students. The letter must be issued by two of student’s professors.

  • Candidate’s photographs

  • Mobility Activity Plan (MAP): A detailed study plan for research/teaching or training activities.

  • Proof of Registration: Issued by home institution stating that he candidate is currently enrolled there.

Application Procedure For Erasmus Mundus Scholarship 2024 

Steps:

  • Find out the hosting institution that has Erasmus+ Inter-Institutional Agreement with your home university. You can check the complete list of hosting institutions of Erasmus at CEU website here: by department and by country.

  • Select the study area, academic level and hosting institution.

  • Check requirements if your hosting institution.

  • You can only select one hosting university.

  • Contact the faculty of department related to your study course to attain complete course information and admission requirements.

  • You will create an account here:  https://eacea.ec.europa.eu/homepage_en

  • Upload your documents and fill out application form and follow the instruction for submitting application.

Do’s:

  • Select your study programme carefully and make sure you can commit to it.

  • State why you are eligible for Erasmus Programme and what are the qualities that make you stand out among others.

  • Explain reason why you have chosen certain study programme and what your aspirations are by pursuing it.

  • Highlight your strengthens, your previous achievements and educational experience

  • Your motivation letter must be positive and impactful

  • The start and end of your motivation letter must have effective positive notes.

Don’ts:

  • Your motivation letter must reveal your aspirations and passion for education, it just not merely about you CV.

  • The letter motivation letter does not have to be lengthy but meaningful.

  • Use simple words and direct speech rather than complex phrases and flowery expressions.

Deadline For Erasmus Mundus 2024 Scholarship

The deadlines for Erasmus+ plus Key action 1 (KA1) scholarship are as follows. Key Action 1 category is for learning mobility of individuals that is; Erasmus+ study abroad scholarships. The deadlines for KA1 are the following:

  • For Mobility of individuals in the field of youth application deadline is 5th February

  • For Mobility of individuals in the field of higher education application deadline is 5th February

  • For Mobility of individuals in VET, school education and adult education fields’ application deadline is 5th February

  • For Mobility of individuals in the field of youth application deadline is 30th April 

  • For Mobility of individuals in the field of youth application deadline is 1st October 

  • For Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees application deadline is 14th February 

  • For Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees – Joint call EU-Japan application deadline is 1st April

Duration For Erasmus Mundus Scholarship

  • Under the Erasmus+ scholarship, the students can study abroad for minimum 3 months duration to maximum 12 months duration.

  • Through Erasmus+, students can enroll in exchange programmes for study or for internship to gain work experience but in either role

  • The maximum duration allowed is 12 months.

  • However, the under graduate level architecture and medicine students having Erasmus scholarship can study in abroad for maximum 24 month duration.

What is Erasmus Mundus Programme?  

Erasmus+ programme is an EU organized programme that provides financial aid to the fields of education, training, youth and sport by bringing together seven EU programmes. The programme also focuses on developing strong academic cooperation between programme countries and partner countries by initiating opportunities of mobility learning and training.

What opportunities do Erasmus Mundus provides to higher education students and staff?

The students can also attain internship and work experience from Erasmus’s registered organizations for 2 to 12 months duration. The Erasmus+ programme provides scholarships that offer tuition fee allowance, travel expenditure allowance, subsistence and installation cost contribution to students of JMD (joint master’s degree) study programme.

What is difference between partner countries and programme countries?

Programme countries are those countries that have set up National agency and participate in financial funding of Erasmus. There are 33 Programme countries, 28 out of which are European Union members. Partner countries are all countries around the globe. 

In which countries I can do study and traineeship under Erasmus Mundus?

If a hosting institution of any country has an "inter-institutional agreement" with your home country, you can study there through Erasmus+. To do traineeship in abroad through Erasmus+, the receiving organization can public or private, but it has to be active in labour market in the fields of education, training, youth and sport located in one of the Programme Countries.

Who is eligible for study or traineeship in abroad through Erasmus Mundus Programme?

For Study: the students intending to avail Erasmus+ scholarship have to be enrolled in a higher education institution and doing a internationally recognized degree programme at Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate studies level. 

Has there any age limit set to apply for Erasmus Mundus Programme?

No, there is no age limit set for participation in any of Erasmus+ mobility activity. However, you have to meet the eligibility requirements of the study programme you are applying for as per the criterion of your hosting higher education institution.

What is application procedure of Erasmus Mundus Program?

The higher education institutions located in partner and programme countries of Erasmus+ have specific online application system for intending candidates. The students can take guidance of their home institution for online application of Erasmus+.

What is the next procedure after getting selected for Erasmus Mundus?

Once a student is selected for Erasmus+, he/she will be granted "Erasmus student charter" by their sending institution. He/ she will be notified about rules and obligations during their study period in hosting institution.

What is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree?

The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree is an international highly integrated masters degree programme of 60, 90, 120 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) that will have 12 to 24 months duration. The studies of EMJMD programme will take place in at least two programme countries. 

Can i apply for more than one Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree programmers?

Yes, in one selection year, you can apply for three Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree programmers.

To be eligible to apply for Erasmus+ Masters Degree loan you must be living in one programme countries. The loan will be around EUR 12 000 for a one-year Master and EUR 18 000 for a two-year Master.
