Scholarship Benefits
- Provide funds for doctorate research.
- Doctors of Philosophy and other professional doctorates get an annual stipend of $33,624 New Zealand dollars.
- Doctors of Philosophy can receive a 36-month waiver on their domestic tuition fees.
- Tuition fees are waived for up to 36 months.
- Exposure to performing research in an international setting.
- Knowledge of advanced research methodologies and techniques.
Eligibility Criteria
- First Doctoral Qualification: Applicants should normally be pursuing their first doctoral degree.
- Academic merit: The applicant's research potential and academic quality are the primary criteria for selection. A high academic record is necessary. For domestic applicants, a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 8.0 ('A' grade) or above in previous studies, particularly honors or master's degrees with a major research component from a New Zealand university.
- Research Potential: The demonstrated enthusiasm and potential to perform high-quality research are important elements in the selection process.

A long and proud scholarships legacy has set the scene for a very special conference this weekend, bringing together 520 Manaaki New Zealand Scholarship Programme scholars from 54 countries, in Auckland.
Funded by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) through International Development Cooperation, and delivered by Education New Zealand Manapou ki te Ao (ENZ), the Manaaki Scholar Conference will — for the first time, ever — enable scholars to connect, learn, and share experiences in-person, and with others who are navigating similar academic journeys.


UoA is New Zealand’s world-ranked university that offers flexible degrees with a wide range of majors.

The program is available to domestic students and domestic fee-paying international students
Applicants who already have a doctorate are not eligible for consideration
M?ori and Pasifika applicants will be prioritized.

University of Auckland, the Centre for Global Childhoods
The successful applicant will undertake a PhD thesis in the Centre for for Global Childhoods, Faculty of Education and Social Work that aims to make a positive contribution towards the strategic research goals of the Centre, supervised by the Centre Director – Professor Marek Tesar.

Scholarship valued at $33,000 p.a. plus compulsory fees for up to 36 months full-time study

Paid work may not exceed 750 hours per 12-month period of scholarship tenure

The scholarship will be awarded for a PhD degree in any subject offered by the university
Criteria:
Applicants meet the eligibility standards set by the China Scholarship Council to apply for and receive one of its scholarships. Refer to the official website of the China Scholarship Council for more information.
Applicants must have admission into the PhD program at the University of Otago.
In the case of applicants for a doctoral scholarship, confirmation of the scholarship is dependent on the approval of their application for admission to the relevant doctoral program and completion of the enrolment procedure.
