University of Excellence

In the Excellence Strategy, Heidelberg University is committed to its strategy as a comprehensive research university. On the one hand, the university promotes its individual disciplines and, on the other, it makes a great effort to bring together skills from various disciplines and to create new structures and research foci. In order to cross-link its four profile-forming Fields of Focus (FoFs) in the life sciences, natural sciences, humanities, and social and behavioural sciences, Heidelberg University is building new bridges across disciplinary borders in the Excellence Strategy with two flagship initiatives. Engineering Molecular Systems (FI EMS) will act as a pioneer for nanoscale engineering.

The Scholarship Programme

With the Hans-Peter Wild Talent Scholarships, Heidelberg University supports talented and motivated students in a MINT subject (mathematics, informatics, natural sciences, technology) from Germany and abroad as of their very first semester. The scholarship is endowed with 1,000 euros per month and is intended to support you in the ideal case, through completion of your degree.

 KWI International Fellowship 2026.

 It is a Fully Funded Fellowship in Germany for International applicants from around the world. The Duration of the Fellowship is 6 Months, and it will run from 1st April 2026 to 30th September 2026 at the IKulturwissenschaftliches Institut (KWI).

 Criteria:

Researchers who have completed their PhD and have up to six years of post-doctoral experience.

International focus: Open to researchers from around the world.

German nationals: Only eligible if currently employed at an international institute.

Project requirement: Proposals must address KWI’s research agenda.
