Future Leaders Fellowship 2025 – Fully Funded | TMU, Canada

Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) is now open for applications for its Future Leaders Fellowship 2025. This fellowship is part of the Bridging Divides initiative and offers support to senior PhD candidates and early career postdoc scholars from around the globe who are focused on interdisciplinary research that blends migration with advanced digital technologies.

Fellowship Objectives

The Future Leaders Fellowship has three main goals:

  • Encourage junior and senior researchers to team up on projects.
  • Develop interesting research that looks at migration and ADTs within the themes of:
    • Immigrant Health and Wellbeing
    • Work and Lifelong Learning
    • Place and Infrastructure
    • Citizenship and Participation
  • Help participants grow professionally through mentorship, networking, and getting involved with the broader Bridging Divides community.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply, you need to:

  • Either have a draft of your dissertation ready if you're a PhD candidate, or be a postdoc who finished your PhD within the last five years.
  • Be part of an academic institution.
  • Be interested in research that connects Advanced Digital Technologies with immigrant integration, covering topics like health equity, economic integration, new smart infrastructure tech, or civic and political engagement.

Fellowship Structure

The fellowship kicks off with a five-day residency at TMU in Toronto. During this time, the fellows will: 

  • Meet their assigned mentor. 
  • Fine-tune their research projects. 
  • Network with others. 

After the residency, fellows will head back to their home institutions to continue their research, staying in touch with their mentors for support and to sort out any challenges that come up. By the end of been the program, they’ll have: 

  • A journal article that’s peer-reviewed. 
  • A chance to present their research at a major international conference, allowing them to share their work with the academic community.
