According to a recent poll, Canada is the most attractive study destination for international students. This is due to the exceptional efforts taken by the Canadian government to ensure the smooth and quick return of international students in Canada.
On the contrary, Australia has severely disappointed international students, since many are still uncertain when and how they will begin their on-campus studies at Australian universities. Despite the fact that the country has launched a pilot plan for the safe return of foreign students to Australia, students are still dissatisfied because there have been previous pilot plans that have been unsuccessful and were eventually cancelled.
The survey has reported that due to the various shortcomings of the Federal Government, international students have lost interest Australian institutes because they do not want to study another online course, and are now looking for admissions in Universities of Canada or United Kingdoms as these countries have been welcoming students for on campus classes and there are several safety protocols put in places by the university authorities and the federal Government of Canada.
Student friendly policies for international students in Canada
Canada opened borders for international students in late 2020, the country. The federal Government of Canada has directed the Designated Learning Institutes of Canada to have a well-planned and approved Covid-19 readiness plan ready before they welcome the international students.
However Australia on the other hand has not opened their borders for international students since March 2020, however with many pilot plans underway, the country is planning to bring international students back gradually.
In addition to allowing international students to enter the country, Canada has recently announced interim modifications to the country's Post Graduate Work Permit Programme (PGWP), allowing international students to finish their courses online while being outside of Canada without affecting their PGWP eligibility.
Vaccination and Quarantine for international students
Although vaccination is not mandatory for international students to enter Canada, the country has said that receiving a vaccine jab before arrival will be encouraged. Those students who have not been vaccinated will be subjected to three Covid-19 tests: one before departure, one upon arrival in Canada, and one eight days afterwards, in addition to that they will have to follow a 14 days quarantine period in quarantine facility of Canada.
Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca, COVISHIELD, and Janssen are the names of Covid vaccines that are approved in Canada. To be considered fully vaccinated, you must have completed the Covid-19 vaccine dosage 14 days ahead to your arrival in Canada. International students will also be required to provide evidence of vaccination in English language.
Vaccinated individuals will be exempt from the 14-day quarantine period in Canada. If you are completely vaccinated, you will only be vaccinated twice: once before departure and once upon arrival in Canada. There will be no third test for students who have been immunised.
