OIST announces full-funded internships in STEM fields for BS & MPhil students

Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) is offering full-funded internship opportunities in interdisciplinary research for Bachelor’s and Master’s students. University is known for its innovative research in stem fields including physics, biology, chemistry and computational science. The environment of university is multi-cultural due to international students and researchers and, an excellent place for learning research skills in the advanced fields. 

Benefit

The internship opportunity is full-funded and the following support will be provided to the interns:

• Monthly stipend of 2,400 JPY for each working day;

• Travel expenses will be covered by providing OIST Shuttle Bus Pass;

• Airfare tickets;

• Accommodation will be provided by the university;

• University will further help in visa application, registration and processing. 

Eligibility 

Bachelor’s students who are in their last year of degree or have graduated may apply for OIST internship.

Students enrolled in any year of Master’s program or vocational schools are also eligible. 

Currently enrolled students must apply with the approval letter from their home university.

Your desired field of OIST internship must be relevant to your background studies. 

Application Procedure

Applications will be accepted through online portal.

Students need to create an account and start application. It is advised to prepare following documents in pdf in advance:

• Scanned copies of transcript/diploma or certificate of enrollment in host university with the expected date of graduation. 

• Statement of Purpose- It must highlight your interest in the chosen research domains and how your background studies and skills matches it. You may apply for multiple research units. However, it does require your explanation. Why did you choose OIST institute and what do you plan to accomplish there?  Maximum word limit is 400 words. 

• Recommendation Letter. Your Referee will receive an email automatically and fill the recommendation form for you. One Recommendation letter is required. Students may give contact information of up to 3 Referees.

• Passport copy and passport number is required at the time of application. Those who do not have yet may apply through government identification card and submit passport copies letter once they get acceptance. 

• Photo-A headshot photo is required taken within last three months.
