Study Abroad or Immigration Consultancies are companies that provide consultancy and do all the preparation for you to send you abroad for studies or any other purpose. All students, when decided to go abroad for education, go to a Study Abroad Consultant that properly guide you about all the possibilities you have according to your requirements.

Many of us are a little afraid when dealing with a study abroad consultant. We are confused with the thought of any scam or fraud. Following information will give you the confidence to deal with them.

How They Work

Before you learn precautions, you must know how these companies actually work.

Some work for foreign universities. Their job is to provide them with international students. Universities also need international students in their campus, it not only creates diversity in their campus but increases its reputation. With international students, they somehow get government funding. Universities also charge international students a lot more than actual fees than they have for their domestic students. These consultants charge universities, they are working with, for each student.

Some Consultants work for students. They do the documentations and all other work for students i.e. Visa. They somehow get them admission in an abroad university and charge them for that.

Other and most Consultants work for both. They guide students and do all their work for Visa and Admission and send them to one of the universities they are working for, because that is where they get their financial benefit from.

Ensure Fee and Refund Policies

Some study abroad agencies, usually, don’t talk much about Fee and all the charges. They all are always little vague at that point. But once you have already invested your money then you have no other but to pay.

Ensure their Relationships with Universities

Consultancies may claim to have relationships with certain universities, in order to pitch the sell. If they are claiming to be affiliated with certain universities, you should validate their speech.

Some universities have mentioned on their official website if they have any affiliated agencies. Otherwise, do not be shy to call that university’s admission office and inquire whether the assertion is authenticate or not.

Some consultants also show that they don’t have any affiliation with any university, so clients will not catch the impression of them being a double agent. This way, clients are more satisfied that they are getting us into the best university possible for us not them.

Beware of Frauds

The biggest fear one can have when going to Consultancy is Fraud. When working with an immigration consultancy, you are safe as long as you have not paid them any money. Be satisfied first that you trust them. They are not only going to take your money but will take your sensitive documents and migrate you strange country, legally or illegally.

“Some consultants would say anything to get money out of your pocket”, says Mr. Imran, Managing Consultant at True Migration. “They would guarantee admission in top universities and say you don’t even need IELTS or TOEFL. Whereas, in fact, you will not get admission in any top university unless you have the caliber for it. Though, there may be some exceptions in certain cases for IELTS, you still need to have its certificate, with at the very least 5 bands.”

First thing you should see is, if that consultancy is registered or not. You may also contact related government department for authentication. Always provide real documents and information. Make sure nothing on your application is misleading. Always use your common sense when dealing with them. Unless, you are yourself, looking to drift illegitimately, I don’t think anyone can migrate you illegally.

Look for Reputable Consultancy

All old and big time consultancies have a sound reputation. Look for how this agency is known in market. Most healthy Consultancies have their success record saved with them. Ask them for it. Validate it as much you can, it is, after all, your right.

You can also contact their former clients and ask for feedback. The better their reputation and record is the better for you. This way, you know they are not a scam and do their work professionally.
