Why to Study Aerospace engineering in Germany

In Germany, the diverse methodologies of providing exceptional education have shaped the students into real professionals. Engineering education in Germany would be a golden opportunity as there seems to be a shortage of skilled workers in Germany particularly in the fields of Information Technology, Mathematics and Engineering.

Aerospace engineering:

Aerospace engineering is one of the hard-hitting career paths in the world. Aerospace engineers are at the forefront of technological growth. Students can enroll in aeronautics (aircraft design) or aerospace (spacecraft design) at an undergraduate, masters or doctorate level.

Studying Aerospace Engineering in German Universities:

An engineering degree in Aerospace delivers proficiency in aerospace technology and management tools. In Germany, the Aerospace industry earned revenue of €32.1 billion in 2014.

In Aerospace or other engineering universities more emphasis is given to the practical work and internships so that student can apply the concepts on functional areas to get command on professionalism with a bright future. Germany is a hub of research in aerospace technology. Besides the German Aerospace Center (DLR), Germany’s involvement in the European Space Agency (ESA) has made Germany’s aerospace organization, the second-largest in Europe. The technologies involve the study of Earth and Solar system and safer air transport system. The major subjects of this field are:

·         Aircraft designing

·         Aerodynamics

·         Flight system dynamics

·         Aeronautic systems

German Universities for Aerospace engineering:

There are several reputed German Universities offering world-class study program in Aerospace engineering.

·         RWTH Aachen

·         TU Munich

·         TU Stuttgart

·         TU Berlin

·         TU Brunswick.

·         TU Darmstadt

Cost of Studying in Germany:

The mentioned universities enjoy top positions at global university rankings. German universities were offering free tuitions to all their students since 2014 but recently due to some financial crises Germany has announced that the Universities will charge a tuition fee for Non -EU students .However this fees is far less than those applied in American or other European universities but still the international student will have to pay a handsome amount.

A minimum amount of 700 Euro per month is an average cost of living in Germany - including institute requirements, public transport and health insurance. Living costs vary in different regions. The northern and eastern parts of Germany are less expensive than the south and the west.

German Scholarship Programme:

To get saved from such burdens it’s better to study engineering in Germany through fully –funded or university –specific scholarships.

Government –Based German Scholarships:

·         DAAD Scholarships

·         Erasmus

The DAAD scholarships are not offering any undergraduate program, however University-specific scholarships may enroll undergraduate students depending upon the academic excellence and language proficiency.

Other Private and University-Specific Scholarships:

·         Heinrich Boll Scholarships in Germany for International Students

·         Einstein International Postdoctoral Fellowship.

·         Heinrich Böll Scholarships for International Students

·         Humboldt Research Fellowships for Postdoctoral Researchers

·          Kurt Hansen Science Scholarships

·         Hamburg University of Applied Sciences Masters Scholarships

·         Hessnatur Scholarship

You can search for internationally recognized, accredited scholarship in bachelor’s, masters and doctoral programme offered in Aerospace engineering subjects. The best part is that most of these engineering courses are taught in English in specific universities,.

What these Scholarships are offering:

·         Depending on academic level, a handsome monthly payment in euros is offered to the eligible students.

·         Payments are made for health, accident and personal liability insurance coverage as well as Travel allowances are also offered by some scholarship programs.

Who are eligible?

If a student wishes to study engineering in Germany he has to pass Abitur or an equivalent degree for international students. Students with university entrance certificates from abroad can apply for these programs. Generally, to earn these scholarships it is mandatory to earn good grades however students with a proof of low financial conditions can also apply for these scholarships with specific terms.

The Pakistani HSSC is not considered as equivalent to a German Secondary School Certificate ("Abitur”). To gain equivalency, the students have to complete two years of undergraduate studies at a university in Pakistan. Secondly, the student can take a foundation course in Germany (Studienkolleg) and pass a test ("Feststellungsprüfung”) to enter an undergraduate course. A- level students can apply for graduate program.

For all international degree courses with English as medium of instruction the requirements are listed on the official website. IELTS or TOEFL scores are also sometimes required. For a German language programme, you have to pass a German language exam.

Getting the Visa:

Students from Islamabad, Punjab, KPK, AJK and Gilgit- Baltistan have to take student visa from the German Embassy in Islamabad, whereas, students from Karachi and Baluchistan have to apply at German Consulate in Karachi.

Accommodation:

Usually these programs do not include accommodation. The student initially stays in a student hostel. Later they can move to shared or private accommodations.

Future of aerospace Engineers:

Aeronautical engineers have great future prospects in:

·         Leading Aerospace companies

·         Armed forces

·         Defense evaluation and research agency

·         Airline operators

·         Civil Aviation Authority

·         The aeronautical engineers are employed in designing and manufacture of missiles or space crafts
