Eligibility Criteria

The Legal Internship Program is very competitive. Here are the primary eligibility requirements:

  • Legal Education: Applicants must be presently enrolled in a law program, such as an LLB, JD, LLM, SJD, PhD, or an equivalent legal degree, with a completion date between December 2025 and July 2026.
  • Nationality: Applicants must be citizens of an IBRD member state.
  • Language Requirements: Proficiency in English is necessary as it is the Bank's principal working language. However, knowledge of additional languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) will be highly valued, as they are also commonly used in the Bank's activities.
  • Graduating Students: If you graduate before December 2025, you are ineligible for this program.

What Does the Internship Involve?

As an intern, you will do:

  • Assist with Legal Research: You will perform research on numerous international law challenges that the World Bank encounters, such as contracts, financing, human rights, and environmental law.
  • Analyze Legal Issues: Interns analyze legal documents, laws, and policies that regulate the World Bank Group's operations.
  • Work on Legal Drafting: You may be able to help draft and review legal papers, contracts, and reports.
