The Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship (GOI-IES) program assists high-achieving international students seeking to study at NFQ levels 9 or 10 (master's, postgraduate diploma, or PhD) in Ireland. The Higher Education Authority manages the initiative, which is sponsored by the Government of Ireland in partnership with Irish higher education institutions (HEIs). Under the initiative, 60 scholarships are offered annually for one year of full-time study at NFQ levels 9 or 10.

A Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship provides a €10,000 stipend for one year of full-time study at NFQ level 9 or 10. The recipients' host higher education institutions are obligated to provide a full fee waiver for the year of their scholarship. Successful students will be expected to start their studies in September or October 2025.

Eligibility Criteria

  • To be eligible for a Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship, applicants must be from countries other than the EU/EEA, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom.
  • Candidates must first apply for admission to a relevant master's, postgraduate diploma, or PhD course provided by an accredited higher education institution, following the institution's admission processes.
  • Applicants who have previously received a GOI-IES scholarship are not eligible to apply.
  • Russian and Belarussian nationals are unable to apply owing to the ongoing conflict with Ukraine.

PhD Scholarship Details

This PhD project aims to document the manifestation of ‘elsewhere’ in periodical publishing in Ireland since 1922.

The research will utilize a mixed-methodology approach underpinned by Digital Humanities techniques to produce a survey of recent and emerging trends in Irish periodical publishing.

The project will engage deeply with cultural, creative, and critical debates on diversity and inclusion in the Irish arts sector, culminating in a comprehensive survey of the iterations of internationalism in literary journals.
