The Commonwealth Scholarships were initiated by the UK Department for International Development (DFID) to provide financial aid to candidates from low and middle income Commonwealth countries. The Commonwealth Scholarships offer fully funded scholarship for fulltime masters and PhD courses at any of UK Universities. Pakistan is one of the commonwealth countries and Pakistani students are allowed to apply for Commonwealth Scholarships by the medium HEC. This is all Pakistani students must know about Commonwealth Scholarship:

Target Study Streams of Commonwealth Scholarships:

The Commonwealth scholarship covers three study streams for Masters and PhD scholarships which include:

• Science and technology for development

• Strengthening health systems and capacity

• Promoting global prosperity

• Strengthening global peace, security and governance

• Strengthening resilience and response to crises

• Access, inclusion and opportunity

Eligibility Criteria for Pakistani Students:

• The candidate must be Pakistani/AJ&K national or permanent resident of Pakistan/AJ&K

• Pakistani students must have been employed as full time university teacher at HEC’s recognized university for at least one year

• For PhD scholarship, Pakistani students must have completed a 17/18 years of education I-e he must have MPhill/MS degree with first class passing average.

• Pakistani students must have earned third division in results of their entire academic career/previous degrees.

• Pakistani students can only apply f their study field is related to above mentioned study streams and their study field must be related to future developmental needs of Pakistan.

• Pakistani students who are applying for Commonwealth scholarships must not have studied in the UK before and also they must not have any registration at UK’s University for Masters or PhD course.  

• Pakistani students must be able to prove that they are financially incompetent to afford studies in the UK.

Application Instructions and Procedures for Pakistani Students

The study abroad consultants can help Pakistani students to apply applications with proper documents. The application instructions for scholarships are as follows:

• Pakistani students will apply at HEC’s official website for Commonwealth scholarship

• To apply, Pakistani will create an online profile, fill application and submit required documents as per the instructions mentioned here.

• Pakistani students must save the online application form of Commonwealth scholarship after submission.

• HEC will evaluate the applicants and short list Pakistani students according to merit/highest grades.

• Required documents for Commonwealth Scholarships for Pakistani students will include: study/research plan, transcripts of academic degrees, CNIC card, statement of purpose and two reference letters from candidate’s professors with their email addresses.

• HEC will conduct interview of shortlisted Pakistani students.

• Female and Male students will be provided equal opportunity to attain scholarship. There will be no gender discrimination.

• No applications will be accepted after deadlines.

• HEC will select the candidates and send the final nominations for scholarship of Pakistani students to Commonwealth authorities for final selection.

• The application deadline is 30^th September 2019 for Pakistani students.

Commonwealth Scholarships Value for Pakistani students

The selected Pakistani students for Commonwealth Scholarships will get admissions in top rated UK Universities. Moreover, they will get benefits of:

• Pakistani students will receive return travel ticket cost for arrival and return to Pakistan after completion of course.

• Fully funded scholarship that covers entire tuition fee cost of UK’s University for your course.

• Monthly living allowance that will range from £1,084 per month or £1,330 depending on your hosting UK’s University’s location.

• Travel grants inside the UK for study purpose, attending seminars, conferences and research.

• Allowance for research work.

• Paid mid-term travel cost to visit your family during the course duration.

• Family allowance if your spouse are living with you in the UK; £233 per month, for first child £233 per month and £114 per month for second child.

• The scholarship duration is one year for Masters Courses and 3 years for PhD courses.
