Eligibility Criteria

For SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises): The program is open to SMEs from any of WIPO's 193 member nations who meet the following criteria:

• The business must be officially registered and provide proof of registration.
• It should have little more than 300 employees and a maximum yearly revenue of $15 million USD.
• The SME must own at least one registered Intellectual Property (IP) right.
• The company must export its goods or services to at least one foreign country.

For Startups: Startups from any of WIPO's 193 member nations may apply if they meet the following criteria:

• The startup must be lawfully registered and have been operational for no more than three years.
• It should not employ more than fifty people.
• The startup must have an innovative product or service with associated intellectual property rights.
• It must have at least one registered intellectual property right or have applied for one.
• The startup must be linked with a business assistance group, such as an incubator or accelerator, and provide confirmation of this relationship.
• It must have a commercial customer, close a business sale, or find an investor.

Submission Process for WIPO Awards 2025

• Each participant may only submit one application, either in the SME or startup categories.
• Use the online application form to submit entries in one of the six official languages of the United Nations (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, or Spanish) or Japanese.
• Participants must describe how they use intellectual property (IP) to sell their products or services regionally or globally. They must also highlight the economic, social, and cultural implications of their activity. Startups must submit information on their IP commercialization strategy.
• WIPO may disqualify entries that do not follow the regulations, appear fraudulent, or harm WIPO's reputation.
• WIPO cherishes your privacy and will treat your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Policy.
